SOCIAL MEDIA OR REAL LIFE? I TAKE BOTH PLEASE!

We shot these images last weekend on what seemed a perfect day. It was Saturday, the sun was shining on our way to brunch with friends, the temperature still a bit low but actually a very good feeling in the sun. The perfect day to start enjoying leather jackets, off the shoulder knits and spring colour boots.

Just 5 days ago seems so far away when a perfect moment like this doesn’t reflects real life. Thankfully nothing really bad happened but yesterday Emma bumped her head against the kitchen table and since the morning after she’s been very sick. As a new mom I’ve read many times that there is nothing as bad as seeing your baby poorly and now that I am experiencing it, this is one of the worst moments.. feeling powerless in front of a sick baby is really the most terrible of feelings.

So tonight, when Emma finally was able to fall asleep and rest, I was going to relax a bit and write this outfit post.. I found myself thinking about the difference between real life and social media.

Today I could have shared one of these nicely edited photos – and I did – or a shot of real life of me in the hospital waiting room wearing a track suit and try to keep my baby smiling. Emma is indeed the most important person in my life and my life rotates around her now. She needs her mommy like no other needs me that much on this planet. I don’t see it as ‘faking the perfect life’, I prefer to read it as a sweet escape from the real life. When I open my Instagram, I like to see pretty things, get inspired by the fellow bloggers and instagrammers and keep inspiring you guys. I think there are enough bad things happening on this world when reading the news so I like to see social media platforms as a happy escape from real life sometimes.

The instagram accounts I love the most are the ones well edited, which show me fancy things, good photography, latest trends and yes let me dream for that fraction of the second when I see and enjoy the picture. So when they say that social media is not real life, I kind of agree but if I can choose, I choose both!

All of us need that daily sweet escape from what’s happening around.

My only tip today will be to don’t feel sorry to share something beautiful on your socials even if you had a sxxx day. It will make you feel better even if just for those 5/10 minutes. But don’t be afraid, if you feel like it, to share your true feelings with your community. You will be surprised on how many sympathetic and sweet girls you can find on a platform like instagram, ready to share an advice or a similar experience. Even if I don’t usually share my ‘bad’ days on my socials, I did share my experience many times with my insta-friends and always made me feel a ton better!

Ultimately, as opposite as everyone is advising these days. I say turn your instagram notifications off!

It is still possible to enjoy the intimate moments with your loved ones and a nice coffee or dinner out (after a table shot of course) and go back to check what’s going on instagram an hour later.. the best way is to interact and be part of the community! #sharingiscaring πŸ˜‰

Emma’s fifth month has been so full of milestones! She started to communicate with us.. in her own way! Our days are filled with screams and laughter. Most of all, last weekend, when she was exactly 5 month and a half, she sat up by herself! (and I am so proud of myself for being camera ready!!). So now she sits up right for longer than 30 seconds.. we reached a good 10 minutes! I am still a bit cautious so I constantly surround her with pillows ahah!

One of her favourite games is, of course, trying to grab anything that is ‘forbidden’! A glass, a knife, computer cables.. Everything seems to be more interesting then her own toys! So typical! Last but not least, she sleeps through the night.. After her last feed between 11:30/12 she sleeps all the way until 8 o’clock in the morning! We are in for a treat!!

I am also having more fun dressing her, and here it comes my favourite part πŸ˜‰ hey! I couldn’t wait to start playing with her hair accessories (not much hair there yet ooopss!..) and her package from BANABEAN couldn’t arrive at a most perfect timing! Isn’t it the dream of every little girl new mom to have a box of beautiful hair accessories delivered to you monthly? The site is launching soon but you can already sign up on the waiting list and tell a friend for the chance to win a free month!! Have fun with your little fashionistas! πŸ˜‰

She is getting so stronger but of course it’s too early. It’s her favourite thing to do.. together with sucking and biting anything that comes close to her. My favourite thing to do with her is our afternoon nap.. The longest the better! She never napped before for more than 20 minutes so I am really enjoying this new moment that we share together daily. I realise that they are babies for such a short time, I am trying to enjoy each stage of development, because they pass so quickly..

I am not in the position of giving tips about babies, not just yet.. I am learning day by day. Everything is a discovery and an experiment really. This space will be more like a photo album to follow Emma’s growth and milestones, to share baby outfits, reviews of baby products and experiences with other mommies and mommies-to-be. One of the reasons I wanted a dedicated part of my blog to Emma is because she is now great part of my every day life and time is absolutely flying by. I feel like yesterday when she was born and now she is able to grab her toys.. and try to eat all of them.. yes, anything she catches goes straight to her mouth! She laugh first thing in the morning and when she is happy screams the funniest noises and immediately after pulls a very surprised face, she’s the funniest! She loves to touch my face, hold my hand and watch baby songs on youtube with daddy. I’ve spent the most incredible 15 weeks, I have laughed, I have cried, I have learnt to do anything with one hand, I have taken more photos an entire pc memory can sustain, I have spent more money on Emma’s clothes than mine, I have made up any kind of tricks to make her sleep or smile, I have been googling anything concerning babies, I have loved but also had any bad experience about breastfeeding and have no problem to admit I found relief in the formula milk (I am still breastfeeding at nights and mornings). Having a baby and immediately after moving to a new country have been harder than expected but Emma is making me the happiest person I ever thought possible and I still can’t believe how much my life has changed. I can’t certainly stop the time but I can stop every day to take pictures and videos of her and write as much as I can with the hope she will enjoy reading it one day.

WONDERING WHAT TO WEAR POSTPARTUM

IMGP3984 IMGP3971 When I was pregnant, especially towards the end, I was dreaming of my due date, of course to meet my baby girl but also to finally go back to my old self.. and I mean body wise. I had no idea my body would go through another phase of change, the postpartum. I mean, I knew.. but I had no idea how it would be! Since I past my due date of 11 days, I was actually pregnant for 10 months, not 9.. Lucky me!! After the baby arrived, with a big surprise, I still felt pregnant for the first few days, and looked like I was 4/5 months pregnant still.. Moreover, I am exclusively breastfeeding so my breast is bigger than it ever was, and always will be.. So, this means, sartorially speaking, another change of wardrobe. I still have to wait sometime to meet my beloved skinny jeans and leather pants.. 9kg away from my pre-pregnancy weight, I am making new friends with shirts borrowed from the boy, wide leg pants and shirt dresses. I am liking it so far, every day is a new experience .. I don’t live it as a deprivation of my old wardrobe, one more time, but more like a new sartorial journey to explore new styles and fabrics I wasn’t really wearing before.. And all this in the great company of my new little doll!

ONLY MATERNITY BOTTOMS!

IMG_9985 IMG_9989 IMG_9990 IMG_9991 When I got pregnant I promised myself I would not wear any maternity clothes! First time mom, lifetime fashionista . . What did I know?? I remember a little crisis I had around 20 weeks when I could not fit my beloved leather pants anymore. I admit it kind of felt the end of the world!! I was able to stretch myself into my regular bottoms until the end of the second trimester, then I had to start research for maternity brands, unless I wanted to start leaving the house with my trousers unbuttoned . . Mmmh . . Not a good idea! People might misinterpret me! πŸ˜‰ After some research I found out they do maternity clothes for a reason! Like these Isabella Oliver joggers, they are more flattering than regular pants on all my growing parts, not to mention they are super comfortable! Personally, I was able to get away with 1 pair of joggers and 3 maternity denims which I plan to reach the due date with and at least the first month or two post pregnancy. My tip is you don’t need much! 4 pieces of maternity pieces are getting me through my 3rd trimester comfortably and stylishly too. If you are not ready to let go of the majority of your wardrobe, like I am, you can still wear all of your tops, shoes and handbags . . The big splurge is on accessories! . . And the cutest baby outfits of course!! More maternity outfit inspo on my instagram @nickyinsideout How did you go through your maternity wardrobe??

BACK WITH A BUMP

chelsea 8 chelsea 4 chelsea 1 chelsea 3 chelsea 5

Photos: Lorna Luxe

I am back on the blog sphere and I have fully embraced maternity wear. . Mine, consisting in maternity bottoms mainly. So far, and currently, trying to squeeze as many outfits of the clothes that I previously own and can still wear comfortably. On top of the list: elastic waistbands and longer tops that have a little give.

But lets step back, when I found out I was pregnant back in November, the idea of a July birth felt years away. Part of it was a good thing – it looked like I had an infinity of time to get ready and come around to the idea that my life would be totally changing. But now that it’s June and I am 6 weeks away, things feel they’ve moved at high speed.

Until lately, I’ve found the most daunting part of this outgrowth to be literally the pregnancy process, and haven’t given much thought to the birth and consequent parenting ‘full time job’. All of the alterations to my body have been so unsettling, at the same time enchanting (I find myself thinking ‘there is a real baby girl inside my bump!!), that they’ve completely distracted me from what’s to come. On Sunday we are going to start the antenatal classes and I am sure everything is going to feel suddenly very real.

I have had a very good pregnancy so far, but working full time didn’t really leave me any extra space for the blog and regular weekly outfit posts. The truth is that I do regret not documenting this pregnancy with more accuracy, but my job didn’t really leave me any spare time which wasn’t used to sleep. A few weeks ago I had a little complication (baby is perfectly fine!) so the doctor ordered me full rest, especially keeping my legs up at least half day every day. So I am left with more time to write!

Now the countdown is on. I have a few weeks left, I still haven’t packed my hospital bag (even if I’ve already picked the first baby outfit!) and I am slowly getting ready. From what I’ve been told, there is only so much you can set up, after which degree you just have to let go and be open to experiencing one of the greatest joy . And I couldn’t be more thrilled !
